2007 Texas Comprehensive Center Annual Forum: Working Systemically, The District's Role in School Improvement

http://txcc.sedl.org/forum/07/

Description

The Texas Comprehensive Center hosted its second annual forum in beautiful San Antonio! This year the forum was designed to help school district leaders and ESC staff work together on defining and planning the role of the district leadership in school improvement as they work toward meeting NCLB implementation goals. This forum was designed for leaders of districts with schools designated as “potential” schools for the 2006–07 school year. “Potential” schools are those that failed to meet AYP for their first year and have the potential to go into School Improvement if they miss AYP again.

This forum was intended for teams composed of the superintendent (or his/her designee) and district leaders representing the following: Title 1, curriculum and instruction, special education, or NCLB programs.

Attendees to this forum learned about research-based competencies that will help them work systemically to achieve school improvement. During this 2-day working session, attendees:

  • built their awareness of components that are essential to systemic improvement,
  • increased their awareness of research-based competencies to improve school performance,
  • identified and prioritized actions for promoting systemic improvement, and
  • networked with technical assistance providers and other district leaders.
