Center Overview

The University of Oregon houses the National Center on Secondary, Transition, and Postsecondary School Outcomes for Students with Disabilities known as the National Post-School Outcomes Center (NPSO). In collaboration with state and national partners, the Center develops and implements practical, efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable strategies for states to collect and use outcome data to improve secondary, transition, and postsecondary school results. The Center (a) builds on existing data requirements and extant knowledge about states' current efforts, and (b) uses our extensive technical expertise and technical assistance experience to develop and disseminate rigorous, yet practical, data collection and utilization strategies. The Center assists states to fulfill the requirements and spirit of the Part B SPP/APR Indicator 14.

Methods

The primary functions of the Center include Knowledge Development and Technical Assistance and Dissemination. Relative to Knowledge Development, the Center: (a) conducted a national survey to identify current state data collection efforts; (b) conducted a literature review of state data collection, analysis, and reporting procedures; (c) develops tools and products to assist states implement practical, efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable strategies for collecting and using post-school outcome data; and (d) reviews and reports on the technical adequacy of measures used. For Technical Assistance and Dissemination, the Center: (a) maintains a user-friendly Web site ; (b) provides technical assistance to states and disseminates relevant information on strategies, approaches, tools and products; (c) facilitated consensus-building among parents and other stakeholders on outcomes to be measured via national meetings and forums; and (d) collaborates with relevant Department of Education and other funded projects to maximize resources and deliver consistent information to states. The Center assists states in coordinating activities across Part B SPP/APR Indicators 1, 2, 13 and 14.
